TLDR Females with androgenic alopecia have significantly lower vitamin D3 and ferritin levels.
The study assessed serum vitamin D3 and ferritin levels in females with androgenic alopecia (AGA) at Balad General Hospital, Iraq, from January to December 2019. Results showed that patients had significantly lower serum vitamin D3 (22.8 ± 11.5) compared to controls (34.4 ± 5.7), and lower serum ferritin (35.7 ± 5.0) compared to controls (44.8 ± 7.3). Vitamin D3 deficiency (<20 mg/dl) was found in 68% of patients. The study concluded that serum vitamin D3 and ferritin concentrations were significantly decreased in females with AGA, with vitamin D3 showing high sensitivity (90.9%) and specificity (95.1%) for predicting the disease.
