The study developed an in vitro method using high performance liquid chromatography to screen steroid 5 alpha-reductase inhibitors. Testosterone and either Finasteride or Epristeride were incubated, and the samples were analyzed to determine the enzymatic activity and inhibition constant (K_i) using Lineweaver-Burk plots. The K_i values were found to be 4.32±3.8 μmol/L for Finasteride and 1.14±0.23 μmol/L for Epristeride. The method was concluded to be rapid and efficient for screening these inhibitors.
