The 2010 Annual Meeting of the Society for Investigative Dermatology showcased significant advancements in dermatological research, with around 1,500 researchers from over 30 countries presenting nearly 900 studies. Key highlights included the exploration of microbial diversity on human skin, the role of sonic hedgehog signaling in hair follicle morphogenesis, and the importance of p63 in skin development. Research linked mutations in filaggrin and LCE genes to atopic dermatitis and psoriasis, respectively. Studies on pemphigus vulgaris, wound healing in diabetic skin, UV exposure risks, psoriasis treatment, and inherited skin diseases were also discussed. Immunological studies emphasized the role of Langerhans cells and the impact of IL-6 and iNOS on wound healing. Additionally, advancements in HIV and hepatitis C virus therapies were highlighted, along with promising strategies for HPV vaccination.
