TLDR Healthy scalp is crucial for hair growth and preventing dandruff.
This article emphasizes the critical role of scalp health in promoting healthy hair growth, highlighting that the scalp barrier condition significantly impacts hair and dandruff. The study involved a systematic literature review and expert panel discussions, resulting in consensus statements on the topic. It was found that oxidative stress, often linked to aging, contributes to scalp health issues like dandruff. Despite the known negative effects of inflammatory scalp conditions such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis on hair growth, there is limited research on the overall impact of scalp health on hair. The article also notes that external factors like chemotherapy, smoking, UV radiation, and certain hair products can adversely affect hair growth. The research underscores the need for more focus on scalp health, particularly in the context of dandruff, as it is often overlooked compared to other inflammatory conditions.
