TLDR Using one's own fat may help treat hair loss.
In 2018, a study was conducted on nearly 100 patients to investigate the potential of autologous adipose tissue (fat) in treating various types of hair loss. The fat was found to be potentially effective due to its properties such as being a large repository of stem cells, possessing anti-androgen activity, having anti-inflammatory properties, and inducing neovascularization. A protocol was developed for autologous fat transfer with platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which showed potential effectiveness as a stand-alone intervention for treating early stages of male and female pattern hair loss, and managing cicatricial alopecias. The procedure was well-tolerated with only minor side effects. The authors concluded that the results supported further investigation into this therapy.
