TLDR Electrospun gelatin-based nanofiber dressings are promising for wound healing due to their effective healing properties and ability to protect against infections.
The review examined electrospun gelatin-based nanofiber dressings for wound healing, emphasizing their biocompatibility, biodegradability, and ability to mimic the extracellular matrix. These dressings showed promise due to their high porosity, air and moisture permeability, and potential for drug delivery. Various electrospinning techniques and polymer blends were explored to enhance mechanical stability and biological performance, including antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Despite advancements, challenges such as fiber stability, drug release control, and lack of commercial products persisted. Most research was conducted on rodent models, highlighting the need for further studies, including non-human primate and clinical trials, to optimize these materials for clinical use.
