TLDR Platelet-rich plasma treatment is more effective than pelvic floor muscle training for improving quality of life in women with stress urinary incontinence.
This prospective study compared platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections and pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) in 169 women with stress urinary incontinence (SUI). The PRP group, with 131 women, received three injections, while the PFMT group, with 38 women, completed a 12-week program. PRP showed greater and more consistent improvements in symptom severity and quality of life, as measured by the Stamey incontinence scale, visual analogue scale (VAS), and King's Health Questionnaire (KHQ), despite the PRP group having more severe symptoms at baseline. PRP was particularly effective across various patient subgroups, including those with higher risk factors like obesity. The study concludes that PRP offers a more effective and promising treatment option for SUI compared to PFMT.
