TLDR A rare lupus case in Bangladesh improved with specific treatment.
This case report describes a rare instance of lupus enteritis (LE) with colorectal involvement in a 17-year-old girl with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in Bangladesh. Typically affecting the small intestine, LE rarely involves the colon and rectum, making this case unusual. The patient presented with severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and bloody diarrhea, and was found to have significant bowel wall thickening and luminal narrowing. Her irregular medication adherence may have contributed to the onset of LE. Treatment with hydroxychloroquine, methylprednisolone, and cyclophosphamide led to significant improvement within 1 week. This case highlights the importance of recognizing atypical presentations of LE for timely intervention to prevent severe complications.
