TLDR Systemic lupus erythematosus caused severe abdominal issues in a Sudanese woman.
A 40-year-old Sudanese woman presented with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) manifesting as multiple joint pain, skin rash, chest pain, hair loss, and intussusception, which is a rare initial presentation of SLE. She underwent bowel resection, and histopathology confirmed intussusception without malignancy or infection. Post-operatively, she was treated with prednisone, hydroxychloroquine, azathioprine, and lisinopril, but continued to require hemodialysis due to grade 4 lupus nephritis. This case highlighted the unusual occurrence of intussusception as a complication of SLE, with only seven similar cases reported in the literature.
