TLDR Surgical removal of an adrenal tumor resolved hormonal issues in a young woman.
This case study discusses a rare instance of a functional adrenal oncocytic neoplasm (AON) in an 18-year-old woman, presenting with symptoms of hyperandrogenism and hypercortisolism, including hirsutism and primary amenorrhea. The patient had a history of unsuccessful hormonal therapy and was found to have a 7.5 cm right adrenal mass. Surgical removal of the tumor led to the resolution of hormonal imbalances and the return of menstruation. This case underscores the importance of considering adrenal tumors in young women with unexplained hyperandrogenism and amenorrhea, highlighting the role of experienced pathologists in diagnosis and the effectiveness of surgical intervention.
