TLDR Female pattern hair loss negatively affects quality of life, and treatment does not improve it within two months.
The study examined the impact of female pattern hair loss (FPHL) on the quality of life (QOL) in Australian women and the effect of initiating treatment. It involved 77 women receiving treatment, 53 women on a waiting list, and 82 women not affected by hair loss. Results showed that women with FPHL had poorer health-related QOL compared to those without hair loss. There was no significant change in QOL two months after starting treatment. The Women’s AGA Quality of Life Questionnaire (WAA-QOL) demonstrated excellent reliability. The study concluded that FPHL negatively affected QOL and that medical consultation and treatment initiation did not improve QOL within two months, highlighting the need for potential psychological interventions.
