TLDR PSA might help diagnose PCOS and related skin issues, but more research is needed.
This review article investigates the potential of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) as a diagnostic marker for hyperandrogenism in women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), particularly in relation to dermatological conditions like acne. The authors reviewed literature from 2006 to 2021 and found that PSA could be useful for diagnosing PCOS and its associated hyperandrogenism, but further research is needed to confirm these findings and establish clinical guidelines. The study also notes the prevalence of dermatological symptoms such as hirsutism, acne, and androgenic alopecia in women with PCOS, which indicate underlying hormonal imbalances.
