TLDR Women with PCOS have higher PSA levels, which are linked to increased male hormone levels and hirsutism.
The study conducted by Wasan W. Ibrahim, Raya Kh. Salah, and Widad M. Abbas in 2016 involved 100 women, 50 of whom had Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and 50 who were healthy controls. The researchers measured the level of prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in these women to evaluate its value as a marker of hyperandrogenism in women with PCOS. The results showed that the mean serum PSA level was significantly higher in women with PCOS compared to the control group (0.15+0.09 vs. 0.016+0.003). There was a significant positive correlation between serum PSA level and Ferriman-Gallway Score (FGS), LH/FSH ratio, and serum testosterone with r values of 0.964, 0.988, and 0.922 respectively. The study concluded that PSA level is significantly higher in women with PCOS and correlates positively with LH/FSH, testosterone, and FGS. Furthermore, a higher score of hirsutism correlated with a higher serum PSA level.

A 30-year-old female with PCOS and male pattern baldness is frustrated with her endocrinologist's recommendation of only Spironolactone and minoxidil, feeling that dutasteride, finasteride, and progesterone would be more effective. Other users suggest various online sources for treatments, warn against self-medicating due to potential risks, and recommend seeking a specialized endocrinologist or considering additional treatments like Inositol, Berberine, and dermaneedling.
