TLDR Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections can effectively reduce hair loss and improve hair growth in both men and women suffering from androgenic alopecia.
From July 2014 to June 2015, a study was conducted on 32 patients suffering from androgenic alopecia who were unresponsive to minoxidil and finasteride. These patients were treated with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections, which were found to promote the proliferation of dermal papillary cells and prevent their apoptosis, contributing to hair growth. The treatment involved injecting 2 to 3 cc of PRP into the scalp every 2 weeks for a total of 4 times. Significant reduction in hair loss was observed between the 1st and 4th injections, and significant improvement in hair growth was noted after the 6th injection in 22 patients. The hair pull test became negative in 13 of these cases, indicating a reduction in hair loss. The study concluded that PRP is a cost-effective and feasible treatment option for androgenic alopecia in both male and female patterns, despite the limitations of a small sample size and short follow-up period.
