TLDR PRP and ADM-STSG co-grafts improve healing and reduce complications in hidradenitis suppurativa surgery.
This retrospective study compared the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and acellular dermal matrix (ADM) in the surgical treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) in 61 patients. The study found that PRP injections in skin flap reconstructions significantly reduced postoperative complications, with 0% complications in the PRP group compared to 13.04% in the non-PRP group. Additionally, ADM and split-thickness skin graft (STSG) co-grafts resulted in better healing outcomes and fewer complications than STSG alone, with shorter hospitalization times. The study concluded that PRP-assisted skin flaps and ADM-STSG co-grafts were effective options for HS surgical treatment, particularly in severe cases, and highlighted the importance of considering patient characteristics and surgical methods to minimize complications and improve recovery outcomes.
