TLDR Combining platelet-rich plasma and minoxidil can effectively regrow hair in severe alopecia areata cases.
This article reports on two cases of severe multifocal alopecia areata (AA) successfully treated with a combination of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and 5% topical minoxidil. Both patients, who refused corticosteroid treatment, showed significant hair regrowth after receiving monthly PRP injections for six months and using minoxidil twice daily. The first patient achieved complete hair regrowth, while the second showed substantial improvement. The study suggests that this combination therapy could be an effective alternative for severe AA, though further controlled trials with more subjects are needed to confirm these findings.
