TLDR L-arginine, hydrolysed keratin, and cystine-silanol copolymer can help protect hair from damage during and after bleaching.
The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of three materials—L-arginine, hydrolysed keratin, and cystine-silanol copolymer—in protecting hair from oxidative damage during and after bleaching. These materials were chosen for their affinity to hair proteins and stability at high pH levels. The research focused on mitigating undesirable effects such as Cell Membrane Complex degradation, disulphide bond oxidation, and peptide bond hydrolysis, which occur alongside the desired oxidation of melanin when using hydrogen peroxide as a bleaching agent.
