TLDR Hormone treatment before hypospadias surgery can increase penis size and reduce surgery complications.
The systematic review and meta-regression analysis, which included 15 relevant articles published between 2000 and 2020, found that preoperative hormonal stimulation with testosterone or dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is commonly used in the treatment of hypospadias. This treatment is associated with increased penile length and glans circumference, which may facilitate the surgical reconstruction process. Additionally, the use of testosterone and DHT was found to enhance neovascularization and reduce the risk of postoperative complications. The hormones were administered in various forms, with testosterone being given topically, parenterally, or orally, and DHT primarily used topically.
