TLDR Premature birth increases the risk of striae distensae.
The study investigated whether premature birth is a risk factor for striae distensae (SD) by interviewing 15,475 parous women aged 18-45, ultimately including 1,336 women in the analysis. Group 1 consisted of 1,231 women born at term, while Group 2 included 105 women born prematurely. The overall prevalence of SD was 34.6%, with mild SD significantly more common in women born prematurely (49.5%) compared to those born at term (31.8%). Multivariate analysis identified height, weight, gravidity, parity, and abortion as significant factors associated with SD. The study concluded that SD was significantly more common in women born prematurely.
