Do Pregnancy And Parenthood Influence The Course Of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome? Basic Data From The Prospective LIPCOS Study (Lifestyle Intervention In Polycystic Ovary Syndrome)

    J Stassek
TLDR Pregnancy and parenthood may help regulate PCOS symptoms.
The study investigated the impact of pregnancy and parenthood on the progression of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) by examining 64 women with PCOS, including 25 mothers and 39 childless women. It found that mothers had lower testosterone levels, although not significantly, and reported a more regulated daily routine and a tendency for cycle normalization post-birth compared to childless women. Additionally, 40 women underwent a test meal and were compared to an external control group of 68 eumenorrheic women. Women with PCOS exhibited higher glucose and C-peptide levels despite having similar insulin levels to the control group.
