TLDR PRP may help short-term with ankle arthritis pain, but long-term effects are unclear.
This systematic review evaluated the effectiveness of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in managing ankle osteoarthritis (OA) by analyzing five studies involving 184 patients, with a mean age of 55.7 years. The studies included three case series, one prospective cohort, and one randomized controlled trial. Results indicated significant short-term improvements in pain and function, particularly in patients with stage II-III ankle OA. However, the review concluded that there is insufficient evidence regarding the long-term effectiveness and safety of PRP for ankle OA, highlighting a lack of high-level research in this area.
