TLDR Platelet-rich plasma treatments reduce knee osteoarthritis inflammation, with pure PRP being more effective.
The study investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of Pure-PRP (P-PRP) and leukocyte-PRP (L-PRP) treatments on knee osteoarthritis (KOA) by measuring serum CD 68 levels, a biomarker for inflammation. Conducted on 48 participants aged 35-75, excluding those with diabetes, autoimmune diseases, or severe KOA, the study found that both P-PRP and L-PRP significantly reduced CD 68 levels post-injection compared to pre-injection levels, indicating anti-inflammatory activity. However, P-PRP was more effective than L-PRP in reducing inflammation, although both treatments resulted in higher CD 68 levels than the control group.
