TLDR Platelet-rich concentrates can be an alternative treatment for oral lichen planus, especially when steroids don't work.
This comprehensive review evaluates the use of platelet-rich concentrates (PRCs) in treating oral lichen planus (OLP), comparing them to traditional treatments like corticosteroids. It includes 14 studies on injectable platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF), injectable platelet-rich plasma (i-PRP), and PRP gel. The findings suggest that PRCs have comparable efficacy to traditional treatments, with some studies showing more beneficial effects, particularly in steroid-resistant cases. However, one study reported more severe adverse reactions in the PRC group. Despite these mixed results, PRCs are considered a promising alternative due to their anti-inflammatory properties, though further research is needed to confirm their efficacy and safety.
