TLDR Testosterone levels aren't important for depression in men, but some other hormones might affect certain symptoms.
The study investigated the relationship between plasma androgens and major depressive disorder (MDD) in a large cohort of men. It concluded that circulating androgens synthesized by the testes were of limited clinical relevance to MDD in adult men. However, specific androgens such as androstenedione, DHEAS, and 5α-DHT might be associated with certain individual symptoms of MDD.
