TLDR Certain gene variations in PITX2 are linked to a higher risk of male pattern baldness in Indians.
This study examined the link between PITX2 gene polymorphisms and androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in 70 male AGA patients and 60 non-AGA controls from India. Significant correlations were found between AGA risk and specific PITX2 polymorphisms, particularly the rs2200733 allele (OR = 6.08, p < 0.001), the rs1003464 G allele (OR = 2.02, p < 0.019), and the rs13143308 GT genotype (OR = 4.26, p < 0.001). The AGA group also had higher blood pressure, smoking, alcohol consumption, metabolic syndrome, and family history compared to controls. These results suggest that PITX2 polymorphisms are crucial in AGA development, highlighting the interaction between genetic and environmental factors.
