TLDR Grape seed extract may safely and effectively help prevent lung cancer.
This pilot study tested the safety and efficacy of a grape seed procyanidin extract (LP) for lung cancer chemoprevention. Six subjects completed the 3-month treatment course and reported no adverse effects. LP treatment decreased bronchial epithelial cell proliferation by 55% and downregulated serum oncomirs miR-19a, -19b, and -106b. LP treatment also significantly reduced bronchial histopathology grading, although the clinical significance of this is unclear. The study suggests that LP may be a safe and effective agent for lung cancer chemoprevention.
