TLDR Phyllanthus emblica extract in ethosomes could potentially prevent hair loss.
In 2020, a study was conducted to develop ethosomes of Phyllanthus emblica extract for hair loss prevention. Phyllanthus emblica, a plant used in Thai traditional medicine, was extracted using a maceration method with 95% ethanol as a solvent. The extract had a total phenolic content of 406.37±2.39 mg GAE/g and an antioxidant activity IC50 of 7.05±0.17 μg/ml. Ethosomes were formulated with 0.03% of the extract, 2% of soya phosphatidylcholine, and 20% of ethanol, resulting in an entrapment efficiency of 65.26%±1.80%. The ethosomes were spherical, white colloids with a particle size of 0.43±0.00 μm, a polydispersity index of 0.44±0.03, a zeta potential of -10.40±0.28 mV, and a pH of 4.06±0.03. The study concluded that the ethosomes of Phyllanthus emblica extract had good properties and could be a potential alternative product for hair loss prevention.
