TLDR COCs often cause nausea, vomiting, and hair loss, while Depo-Provera is linked to weight gain.
This study analyzed the side effects of contraceptives Levonorgestrol & Ethinyl estradiol (COCs) and Depotmedroxy progesterone acetate (Depo-Provera) in 1149 women in Pakistan. It found that COCs were more likely to cause nausea, vomiting, and hair loss, with vomiting being more prevalent in younger women (19-35 years) and within the first year of use. Hair loss was more associated with older women (36-50 years), though not significantly linked to age or duration. Depo-Provera was more associated with weight gain, particularly in younger women and with longer use (1-2 years).
