The study "Peripubertal Testosterone, 17β-Estradiol and Progesterone Concentrations in Hair and Nails in Dobermann Dogs" involved 10 Dobermann dogs (5 males and 5 females) and aimed to measure the concentrations of testosterone, 17β-estradiol, and progesterone in their hair and nails during the peripubertal period. The results showed significant changes in hormone concentrations in both hair and nails during this period. In males, testosterone levels increased significantly at the onset of puberty. In females, 17β-estradiol and progesterone levels showed significant variations, with peaks corresponding to the onset of puberty. The study concluded that hair and nails can be used as non-invasive matrices to monitor hormonal changes during puberty in dogs.
