TLDR Peppermint oil promotes hair growth and fights bacteria better than minoxidil.
The study investigated the effects of 3% peppermint oil (PEO) on hair growth and its antibacterial activity against Pityrosporum ovale using male C57BL/6 mice. Over 4 weeks, PEO was applied topically and compared to 3% minoxidil. Results showed that PEO promoted faster and more uniform hair regrowth than minoxidil. PEO also demonstrated superior antibacterial activity, forming a 34.0 mm inhibition zone against P. ovale and inhibiting growth at concentrations as low as 0.046%. Safety assessments indicated that PEO had a better safety profile than minoxidil, with no significant adverse effects on organ weight or blood parameters. The study concluded that 3% PEO could be a practical option for promoting hair growth and preventing hair loss.
