TLDR Peppermint and rosemary oil mixture promotes hair growth similar to minoxidil and has antibacterial effects.
In a study conducted 16 years ago, the effects of a mixture of peppermint and rosemary oil on hair growth were evaluated in a C57BL/6 mouse model. The 6-week-old male mice were divided into four groups: a normal group (saline), a vehicle control group (jojoba oil), a positive control group (3% minoxidil), and an experimental group (3% mixture oil of peppermint and rosemary in jojoba oil). After 4 weeks of topical application, the hair regrowth effect in the experimental group was found to be remarkable and similar to that in the positive control group. The experimental group also showed a significant antibacterial effect against Pityrosporum ovale compared to the positive control group. There were no significant differences in body weight gain and hematological values between the experimental and normal groups. The results suggested that a 3% mixture of peppermint and rosemary oil in jojoba oil could be used for hair growth or prevention of hair loss in humans.
