TLDR Combining glucocorticoids with immunosuppressants like cyclophosphamide improves remission and reduces relapse in pemphigus patients.
The study evaluated the safety and efficacy of glucocorticoids (GCs) versus immunosuppressants in 75 pemphigus patients. Patients were treated with GCs alone or in combination with immunosuppressants like cyclophosphamide. Results showed that 89.5% of patients treated with GCs and cyclophosphamide achieved remission within 4 months, compared to 73.9% with GCs alone. The study concluded that using cyclophosphamide and other immunosuppressants as adjuncts to GCs enhances clinical outcomes by achieving earlier remission and reducing relapse rates, offering significant steroid-sparing effects.
