TLDR Photodynamic therapy with methylene blue and a laser effectively destroys hair follicles better than traditional laser hair removal.
The study explored the use of photodynamic therapy (PDT) with methylene blue (MB) and a low power continuous wave He-Ne laser for hair removal. Mice skin tissues were used to test various combinations of MB and laser exposure. Results indicated that MB was selectively absorbed by actively growing hair follicles, and when combined with laser exposure, it effectively destroyed hair follicles while leaving the epidermis intact. The study concluded that this PDT system was successful in selectively damaging hair follicles and provided a better outcome than traditional laser hair removal methods, due to the complete destruction of hair follicles.
