TLDR Polycystic ovary syndrome affects health and can be hard to diagnose, with treatments ranging from drugs to herbal remedies.
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a multifactorial endocrinopathy that negatively impacts physical, mental, and social health due to poor ovarian health, hormonal imbalances, and associated depression. It can be difficult to diagnose due to common symptoms that overlap with other disorders like idiopathic hyperandrogenism and diabetes. High levels of androgens can lead to hirsutism, disordered folliculogenesis, and dyslipidemia. Lifestyle factors such as lack of exercise and diets high in fat and sugar can contribute to infertility, another issue associated with the syndrome. Treatments include chemical drugs and herbal therapies, with many people preferring herbs due to fewer side effects and easy availability. However, some chemical drugs like bicalutamide and flutamide, while effective, can negatively impact liver health.
