TLDR PLA nanoparticles can effectively deliver treatments to hair follicles, showing potential for hair therapy.
This study focused on developing Poly (Lactic Acid) nanoparticles (PLA-NPs) for delivering therapeutic agents to hair follicles, with potential applications in hair cosmetics. The researchers optimized a nanoprecipitation protocol, achieving monodispersed particles with a mean size of 150 nm and a yield of up to 90% using mechanical stirring. The nanoparticles effectively encapsulated model compounds with over 80% efficiency and demonstrated different release mechanisms for lipophilic and hydrophilic substances. Fluorescence microscopy confirmed that these nanoparticles could transport compounds into hair follicles, reaching full follicle depth within 24 hours. The modified protocol showed promise for industrial-scale production of PLA nanocarriers for hair follicle therapy.
