TLDR Smaller particle sizes of Tetrastigma hemsleyanum powders improve their effectiveness and liver health benefits.
The study examined the effects of particle size on the physical properties, dissolution, antioxidant activity, and hepatoprotective effects of Tetrastigma hemsleyanum Diels et Gilg (TDG) powders. It found that smaller particle sizes, particularly TDG micro powders (TDG-MP), significantly improved dissolution rates and antioxidant activity, with EC50 values for DPPH scavenging decreasing to 0.10 mg/mL. In vivo tests on 48 male ICR mice showed that TDG-MP provided better protection against liver damage, as indicated by reduced serum AST and ALT activities and enhanced liver enzyme activities (SOD, CAT, GSH). The study concludes that reducing particle size enhances the bioavailability and efficacy of TDG powders, making them more effective for clinical applications.
