Co-Regulatory Mechanisms and Potential Markers of Oxidative Stress-Related Genes in Vitiligo and Alopecia Areata

    This study explores the role of oxidative stress (OS) in vitiligo and alopecia areata (AA), identifying KLB and EIF3C as potential biomarkers linked to these conditions. It reveals that increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) and OS levels trigger immune responses, damaging melanocytes in vitiligo and causing inflammatory hair loss in AA. The research, involving 30 vitiligo and 86 AA patients, suggests that understanding these mechanisms could lead to targeted therapies. KLB and EIF3C are highlighted for their roles in OS and immune regulation, with EIF3C associated with cell cycle and apoptosis, and KLB involved in reducing OS and phosphate homeostasis. The study concludes that OS is a common pathogenesis for both diseases, with these biomarkers aiding in early diagnosis.
