TLDR A rare dual diagnosis of alopecia areata and lichen planopilaris requires thorough evaluation for effective treatment.
This case study discusses a 24-year-old man with a 3-month history of progressive hair loss, diagnosed with overlapping conditions of alopecia areata and lichen planopilaris. Clinical examination and histological analysis revealed both nonscarring and scarring alopecia, with inflammation and fibrosis around hair follicles. Treatments including triamcinolone injections, oral hydroxychloroquine, and oral minoxidil provided some relief. The study highlights the rarity of this dual diagnosis and underscores the need for thorough clinical and histological evaluations in atypical hair loss cases, contributing valuable insights to the limited literature on such overlapping conditions.
