TLDR Trichoscopy effectively diagnoses eyebrow loss, distinguishing between alopecia areata and frontal fibrosing alopecia.
The study assessed trichoscopic markers in 50 patients with alopecia areata, 50 with frontal fibrosing alopecia, and 50 healthy controls to diagnose eyebrow loss. It found that exclamation mark hairs, tapered hairs, broken hairs, and black dots were characteristic of alopecia areata, while dystrophic hairs, white areas, and eyebrow regrowth in distinct directions were indicative of frontal fibrosing alopecia. The study concluded that trichoscopy is a valuable tool for diagnosing isolated eyebrow loss, with specific markers distinguishing between alopecia areata and frontal fibrosing alopecia.
