TLDR Olive oil byproducts can be used in skincare for their antioxidant and protective benefits.
The document reviews the potential of olive mill wastewater (OMWW), a byproduct of olive oil production, in skincare and haircare products due to its rich content of bioactive compounds like hydroxytyrosol and oleuropein. These compounds exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties, making OMWW valuable for addressing skin aging, photoprotection, and skin cancer prevention. Additionally, OMWW shows promise in promoting hair growth by enhancing follicular activity and increasing growth factor secretion. The integration of OMWW in cosmetic formulations not only improves skin and hair health but also offers an environmentally sustainable solution for utilizing olive oil byproducts.
