TLDR Mixing equal parts of honey and ghee is harmful.
The study investigated the toxic effects of consuming honey and ghee in equal ratios, as mentioned in the Ayurvedic text Charak Samhita. Using 24 Charles Foster rats divided into four groups, the research found that the group fed with an equal mixture of honey and ghee exhibited weight loss, hair loss, and red patches on the ears. Biochemical tests showed significant increases in liver function tests, amadori products, advanced glycation end products, and other markers, while antioxidant levels decreased. Histological analysis revealed mild liver inflammation. The study concluded that the equal mixture of honey and ghee led to oxidative stress-mediated toxicity, likely due to increased hydroxymethyl furfural and other biochemical changes.
