TLDR Vitamin D receptor FokI gene variation is not linked to alopecia areata.
This study investigated the potential relationship between Vitamin D receptor (VDR) FokI gene polymorphism and alopecia areata (AA) by genotyping 25 patients with extensive forms of AA and 27 healthy controls. The analysis revealed no statistically significant differences in the frequencies of the VDR FokI genotypes between the patient and control groups, suggesting a lack of association. However, the study recommended further research in other populations and larger groups, as well as examining other VDR polymorphisms, to conclusively determine any relationship.
