TLDR Neural stem cell extract can safely promote hair growth in mice.
In a 2016 study, researchers found that neural stem cell (NSC) extract significantly promoted hair growth in mice by activating hair follicle stem cells and dermal papilla cells, and by modulating key signaling pathways such as TGF-β and BMP. The NSC extract increased hair shaft length, growth rate, and hair weight, and it did not cause DNA damage or cell death, indicating its safety for skin treatment. Histological analysis showed an increase in hair follicles and proliferative cells in the hair matrix. The study, which involved in vitro and in vivo experiments with a sample size of n=5 mice per group, suggests that NSC extract could be a potential therapeutic agent for hair loss conditions. The research was funded by various institutions and the authors declared no conflicts of interest.
