TLDR Nanoemulgel is a better way to deliver drugs through the skin for various conditions.
The document discusses nanoemulgel, a fusion of nanoemulsion and hydrogel systems, as a promising delivery system for lipophilic drugs. It addresses issues like poor oral bioavailability and unpredictable pharmacokinetic and absorption variations. Nanoemulgel has been found to have better drug permeation into the skin than conventional ointments, creams, gels, and emulsions. It can be used to treat various conditions including acne, psoriasis, fungal infections, inflammation, alopecia, periodontitis, and Parkinson’s. A nanoemulgel preparation of minoxidil was found to be more effective and safer than conventional preparations for the treatment of alopecia areata. Despite its advantages, nanoemulgel has issues with low spreadability, low viscosity, and poor skin retention, which have been addressed by incorporating nanoemulsion into a gel matrix.
