TLDR Nanocapsules can improve clobetasol delivery to hair follicles, reducing side effects.
The study investigated the use of polymeric nanocarriers to optimize the delivery of clobetasol propionate (CP) for treating inflammatory scalp diseases while minimizing adverse effects. Three types of nanocarriers—nanospheres, nanocapsules, and lipid-core nanocapsules—were tested, with nanocapsules showing the highest follicular uptake, especially when applied with massage, and reduced transdermal permeability compared to the free drug. This suggested that nanocapsules could effectively target hair follicles and decrease interfollicular drug penetration, offering a promising strategy for improving drug delivery and reducing side effects in topical glucocorticoid treatments. The study provided a foundation for future clinical trials involving CP nanocarriers, potentially enhancing treatment efficacy and safety for conditions like alopecia areata and scalp psoriasis.
