Effect of Treatment with Musa Paradisiaca L. Extract on Hair Protection During Chemical Procedures

The study investigated the protective effects of Musa paradisiaca L. extracts on hair during chemical treatments, specifically as a pretreatment for permanent waves. By incorporating 10% Musa extracts into the treatment, the study found that hair treated with this formulation (JBM) closely resembled virgin hair in terms of thickness and exhibited the highest tensile strength (115.66±12.39 gf/mm2) compared to untreated hair. Additionally, JBM-treated hair had a high sulfur content (09.76%), only slightly less than virgin hair. These findings indicated that Musa extracts were effective in reducing hair damage and enhancing hair protection during chemical procedures.
