Monilethrix treated with oral retinoids

    David de Berker, R.P.R. Dawber
TLDR Oral etretinate improved hair length and reduced beading in monilethrix.
A childhood case of monilethrix was treated with oral etretinate, resulting in a marginal cosmetic benefit but notable increases in hair length and loss of beading along the hair shaft. The background scalp condition of keratosis pilaris persisted, indicating that etretinate specifically influenced the beading of the hair rather than being an artefact of the hyperkeratotic condition.
