TLDR An mFG score of 7 or higher indicates hirsutism in Filipino women, often linked to higher free testosterone levels.
This study aimed to determine the modified Ferriman-Gallwey (mFG) cut-off score for hirsutism among Filipino women and its association with biochemical hyperandrogenism. Involving 128 participants (28 with PCOS and 100 without), the study found that the PCOS group had a higher mean mFG score (4.3±3.0) compared to the non-PCOS group (2.0±2.2). A cut-off score of 7 was established, with 17.9% of the PCOS group and 5.0% of the non-PCOS group being classified as hirsute. Elevated free testosterone was significantly associated with hirsutism (odds ratio, 6.2; P=0.030). Thus, an mFG score of 7 and above indicated hirsutism in Filipino women, who were more likely to have elevated free testosterone levels.
