TLDR miR-200a reduces goose fibroblast growth by targeting PITX2 in the Wnt pathway.
The study explores the role of miR-200a in goose feather follicle development by targeting the PITX2 gene and influencing the Wnt signaling pathway. Researchers analyzed skin tissues from 6 geese and identified 350 differentially expressed miRNAs, with miR-200a directly affecting PITX2 and subsequently the Wnt pathway, which is crucial for goose embryonic dermal fibroblast (GEDF) proliferation. Overexpression of miR-200a decreased Wnt pathway gene expression and suppressed GEDF proliferation, while silencing miR-200a had the opposite effect. These findings highlight miR-200a's potential as a molecular marker for breeding programs to enhance down feather production, despite the study's limited sample size. Future research should validate these results in larger populations and explore the in vivo complexity of these mechanisms.
