TLDR Oral minoxidil has more side effects but can be more effective than topical minoxidil.
Minoxidil, initially introduced as an oral medication for hypertension in the 1970s, was later found to promote hair growth as a side effect. This led to the development of a topical version in the 1980s, available in 2% and 5% concentrations, specifically for treating hair loss. The study aims to compare the adverse reactions and efficacy between topical and oral minoxidil, noting that oral minoxidil is now used in lower doses than those for hypertension treatment. The findings highlight the differences in side effects and effectiveness between the two administration routes.
